Going to the Caucasus to collect folkloric materials, Shurik falls in love with a pretty girl, Nina, who is visiting her uncle. The girl is popular not only with Shurik, but also the district governor, Saakhov likes her and buys her from the uncle for a flock of sheep. She is kidnapped to be forced to marry Saakhov with the help of the naive Shurik, who cannot easily figure out what is going on. When he finally understands, he tries to correct his errors and save the girl.
